Engage

Main content start

This wonderful educational farm is open year round (with the exception of University closures) from 8:00am - 6:00pm Monday through Fridays and from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Saturdays.

We offer workshops, volunteer opportunities, wellness courses and a space for student sustainability groups.

The Farm has a farm! Nicknamed "The Farm", Stanford University was built on the founding family's Palo Alto Stock Farm. Today, under the direction and long-time support of the School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences, the O'Donohue Family Stanford Educational Farm is a resource for the entire campus community and beyond.

From academic courses to workshops, to wellness classes, elementary school programs and open volunteer hours we provide opportunities for hands-on engagement in sustainable food production and local food systems.

Ways to Engage

Farm Tours

Please watch our calendar for information about upcoming public tours. Occasionally we do not offer on-going tours (typically in the summer) and tours must be scheduled by appointment only. Tours can last anywhere from 20-60 minutes. During the tour you will learn more about the past, present, and future of the farm, as well as more information about our facilities and farming practices.

Academic Field Trip Program

The Stanford Educational Farm works with instructors to design field trips appropriate to a wide range of classes from the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Preference is given to classes that serve first- and secondĀ-year students.

If you have a class that could benefit from a field trip to the farm, either during lecture or section, to enhance the classroom experience and reinforce your learning objectives, please fill out our academic field trip request form.

Wellness Courses

Join us at the farm for a unique blend of wellness and agricultural based offerings in collaboration with Healthy Living. Our classes are designed to enhance your connection to nature and well-being through practical and mindful activities. Explore classes offered throughout the year on topics like food preservation, mindfulness in the garden, and more.

Stanford Roots Student Club

Student Roots is an official student club that helps to steward the farm, lead tours, take on leadership roles with farm programs, and organize events. Students of all levels and interests are invited to participate! You must have an official Stanford affiliation to join this email list.

Stanford Roots meets at the farm weekly during the academic year.
